Joining 2nd Turramurra Scouts - A Guide for Parents
The document attached below will help you understand how to join 2nd Turramurra Scout Group.
Important:
1) Your child cannot attend any Scouting Activity unless they have Temporary or Full Membership of Scouts NSW.
2) All memberships will expire at the end of each TREK - details on Membership Explained page.
Moving up to the next Unit (Section) - A Guide for Parents
This explains what you need to do when your child is moving up to the next Unit (eg going from Cubs to Scouts)
1) Discuss with your current leader, the best timing for you child to move up to the next Unit:
- Your child will generally move up to the next Unit around or before their bithday when they turn 8, 11, 15 or 18 years.
- The actual timing will vary depending on how far into a school term, your child's birthday is
- A minor delay if they are required to complete their Peak Award, if they are very close to completing it - Award limited to maximum ages
- The maturity of your child and the abilty to fit in to the next Unit
2) Check the new Unit's Term Program before they start, so you know where are when they will be when they start
3) Start in the new Unit - make sure you know the Unit meeting days and times
4) Purchase your child's next Unit's Polo Shirt and Record Book - details on our S-SHOP page
5) Attend 4 to 6 weeks in that Unit where you will:
- Wear your old unit Shirt and Scarf until you buy your new shirt
- Wear your new Shirt and Scout Scarf after you transfer some of your badges - details below
- Get to know the members of that Unit
- Participate in Activities at the hall and outside the hall - check the Term Program
- Learn how things are done differently between your old unit and your new unit, including at Ceremonies
- With leader support, work on completing and documenting into your new Record Book, your Introduction to [Unit] Section badge
- Transfer to the new Record Book, the following: Copy/Update notes from "Introduction to Scouting", any Additional Award dates to carry forward, Camper Award badge dates. Details on Camper Nights completed, Walkabout Award badge dates and details on Kilometeres Travelled.
- Advise your new Leaders of the above information added, so it is added to our Records database for your child. (can be photos of pages or a messge)
6) Prior to attending the ceremony,
- your will have updated your new Record book, as described above.
- your new shirt will have all the transferable badges sewn on - details below
7) Advise your new Unit Leaders that you are ready to be INVESTED in your new Unit
8) Your new leaders will plan your INVESTITURE CEREMONY and invite your family along to witness the event.
9) At the cermenony:
- your child will be wearing your new Unit Shirt with all the transfered badges sewn on - details below
- your child will be wearing your 2T Scarf and your Woggle.
- your child will be Invested into that Unit - a scouting ceremony where you make or renew you pledges etc
- your child will receive their new Unit Badges - details below
- NOTE: Make sure all badges are sewn on asap as a replacement cost applies.
- You will have an opportunity to take a photo of your child being invested
- They will be assigned to one of the Unit Patrols and will receive that Patrol Ring from the Patrol Leader for that Patrol. Note: The Patrol is decided by The Unit Council (Leaders and Senior Scouts) and is based on having a good mix in each partol - eg a range of ages etc
BADGE TRANSFERS - before your Investiture Ceremony
The following current unit shirt badges are carried forward to the next unit.
Please transfer onto your new shirt: (see the BADGE PLACEMENT CHART - details below)
- Your current OAS (Outdoor Adventure Skills) badges - highest Stage achieved only for each OAS achieved so far. These go from Joeys to Rovers!
- Any Additional Awards badges (check Record Book & Badge Chart) including Camper nights badges and Kilometers hiked badges
- Introduction to section badges eg: Introduction to the Scout Section
- Any Peak Award badges - ( there is a place for all 5 Peak Awards )
- Any Scouts4SDG - Scouts Sustainable Development Goals badges
NEW UNIT BADGES you will receive when Invested:
- 2nd Turramurra Group Tape
- Region badge
- Australian Flag badge
- Scout emblem (unless embossed on your new shirt)
- Patrol Ring for your new Unit's Patrol
Badges that DO NOT Transfer
These badges on your old unit stay on your old unit shirt, as these do not carry forward.
- Milestone badges earned from your Participation, Assists and Leads at Activities in that Unit
- SIA (Special Interest Area) project badges earned in that Unit

Take a close look at where all the bages go and which ones are transferable betwen units.
